Designed as a compact travel companion, the booklet introduces Costa Rica through maps, flight science, wildlife, birds, tropical flowers, puzzles, and open-ended activities. It encourages travelers of different ages to notice what they see before, during, and after the trip.
Behind the Project
Challenge
Design a custom travel activity book for a family preparing for a Costa Rica adventure that would engage travelers of different ages while creating a shared experience before, during, and after the trip. The publication needed to balance education with entertainment, transforming destination research into a practical, engaging companion without feeling overly academic or like a traditional workbook.
Solution
A custom 44-page travel activity book was created specifically for one family's Costa Rica journey, combining destination research, wildlife identification, maps, games, puzzles, and creative activities into one publication. Each section was intentionally organized to encourage curiosity, observation, and conversation while providing meaningful opportunities to connect with the destination throughout the travel experience.
Result
The completed publication demonstrates a complete editorial workflow, including client consultation, content planning, research, writing, publication design, print production, and print-ready file preparation. The project also established a repeatable framework for developing custom travel publications that can be tailored to individual clients, destinations, and educational experiences.

This booklet was designed to move between learning, noticing, and doing. The selected pages show how the activity book introduces Costa Rica through maps, travel science, wildlife spotting, tropical plants, word games, and open-ended creative prompts.
The goal was to create something flexible enough for travelers ages 5 to 50, with pages that could be used on the plane, during quiet downtime, or after a day of exploring.
