Designed to inspire observation and exploration, it transforms a typical day at the beach into a richer learning experience.

Behind the Project

Challenge

Design an educational travel magazine that transforms a typical beach vacation into a meaningful learning experience for families. The publication needed to balance educational depth with an approachable editorial style while remaining engaging for readers of different ages.

Solution

A 44-page magazine was developed combining destination research, coastal science, literature, photography, lesson plans, and activity-based learning into one cohesive publication. Every section was intentionally organized to encourage curiosity, observation, and exploration.

Result

The completed publication demonstrates editorial planning, publication design, educational content development, print production, and marketing strategy from concept through print-ready files. It also established a repeatable framework for future educational travel publications.

Selected Pages

A closer look

These selected spreads show how Field Trip moves between structure and play, from the table of contents mapping out the issue's lessons, science, and stories, to a seasonal spread on tides and sky, a hands-on lesson plan built around coastal architecture, and a lighter, illustrated dive into ocean creature lore.

The goal was to create a magazine families could dip into however it suited them, cover to cover on a long drive, or one spread at a time between waves, with each page offering something to notice, learn, or do.
